In 2026, the Nigerian tech scene will no longer be just fintech and product roles for women. More women are now building in Web3, stepping into blockchain, DeFi, and crypto communications, confidently taking space in an industry once seen as out of reach.

Meet Ogechi Nelson, a tech PR strategist and Web3 storyteller at Reneé PR Agency. She has built her career on translating blockchain conversations into stories people can actually understand.

In 2022, she joined Mariblock as an editorial intern with only a basic understanding of crypto. So she read everything on global finance news, blockchain reports, and DeFi breakdowns. She grew into a reporter, and later an editor, which grounded her in something she still carries today: clarity, objectivity, and responsible storytelling.

Over time, she moved into Public Relations and strategic communications, working with Reneé PR Agency, where she works alongside the team to help African tech and Web3 companies tell their stories in a way that is clear, credible, and globally relevant.

Her background in journalism has helped her approach every story with structure and honesty. Alongside this, she also works closely with a Web3 company as a content strategist, helping refine their voice and structure their messaging.

However, one ongoing challenge in Web3 that Ogechi recalled is the siloed nature of the space. It can feel gatekept and overly technical.

“As a communicator, my work often involves breaking down those walls. I’m also passionate about seeing more women step into the space. We’re making progress, but there’s still room for growth,” she said.

She added that even after four years in the ecosystem, she is still learning.

“I believe the future of Web3 in Africa will depend not just on innovation but on clear storytelling, systems thinking, and narratives that connect technology to real economic development, and I’m glad to be building at that intersection,” Ogechi said.

1. Summarise your mornings in one sentence

My mornings are a complete display of spontaneity. I am either going on my walk, rushing to get on my laptop to do some work, or rushing to the kitchen to make a bowl of yoghurt parfait for breakfast.

2. Describe your gadget setup

My gadget setup is quite simple: My Notepad and pen, my sticky note, my MacBook, a bottle of water, headphones, and of course, my emotional Lego plant.

    3. What tech tools/ applications do you use the most for work?

Google Workspace, Microsoft Teams, Asana, and Claude AI.

    4. What do you do when you need inspiration?

I take short walks within my house or outside my compound. I also play music — House, gospel, soul — whatever the situation calls for. I randomly call my mum too. She always has a word of encouragement for me.

    5. What mobile application can you not do without daily?

    WhatsApp and Twitter (X).

    6. What tech solution do you wish someone had created?

I wish someone could create a software solution that records and shows you the last place you dropped something, or to confirm if you turned off the gas cooker before stepping out.

This will help save time and me from many panic moments, and ensure that the “safe place” you choose to hide something special remains safe.

    7. If you have unlimited time and money, what problem would you solve?

I’ll solve my own life problems first. But honestly, beyond that, I want to build sustainable mentorship and learning programs for girls in underserved communities.

I’m deeply passionate about education, especially because Nigeria’s system is still failing too many people by limiting what they can realistically aspire to. Not the typical “women empowerment” centres with two or three recycled skills, but spaces that actually open doors.

My long-term goal is to create a Web3 and digital fundamentals academy that gives women access to skills that usually feel out of reach: technology, emerging systems, and real-world digital literacy.

I want these learning centres to focus on depth, choice, and long-term opportunity, not just survival skills.

    8. Which woman in tech inspires you the most?

Joyce Imiegha, Founder, Reneé PR Agency. She is a stellar tech storyteller as well.

Beyond being a mentor to me and supporting me, I’ve watched her craft so many brilliant strategies and helped steer so many tech startups in the right direction with PR.

    9. Which profound statement inspires you the most?

Do it afraid. “Have you seen a man diligent in his work? He will stand before kings and not mere men,” (Proverbs 22:29). These are some statements that have inspired me over the last few years

    10. Whose women in tech trivia would you love to read?

    As many as possible!

I am very pleased with this series, and there are some women in the web3 community doing really amazing work. It’s a good thing to give a voice to some of these women, too.
