Claim: All senior citizens in the country will receive a P60,000 bonus for Christmas from the government.

Rating: FALSE

Why we fact-checked this: A YouTube video posted on November 23 carries the title: “Confirmed: P30,000 + P30,000 Christmas Bonus para sa mga Seniors ngayong Pasko (for Seniors this Christmas)!”

In the video, a male narrator claims that senior citizens will receive a total of P60,000 in government aid this Christmas. The narrator outlines a supposed step‑by‑step process: filling out an application form, undergoing verification by local government units, and being included in the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) masterlist.

According to the video, the aid is split into two parts: P30,000 from the regular social pension program for indigent senior citizens; and another P30,000 from a “special Christmas assistance program” of the government

As of writing, the video has amassed over 37,000 views, 2,700 likes, and 848 comments.

The facts: There is no official government program granting a P60,000 Christmas bonus for senior citizens in the Philippines.

The DSWD has not announced any such program, nor does any law authorize lump‑sum holiday bonuses for all senior citizens.

The viral video promoting the claim is also fake. Its own description notes that it was made with altered and synthetic content. The narrator in the footage has looped movements and was consistently unnatural in the presentation while speaking.

AI tools such as Hive Moderation also flagged images from the video as 66.5% likely AI‑generated or deepfake, while SightEngine rated it 99% likely AI‑generated.

Fake holiday bonuses: The DSWD is no stranger to being linked to fake Christmas cash gifts.

In November 2024, the agency debunked a viral claim that it would distribute P7,000 to everyone who completed a survey form. The department quickly clarified that no such cash grant existed and urged the public to remain vigilant, relying only on official communication channels for updates.

At present, the agency administers the Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens, which provides P1,000 per month to qualified beneficiaries, and no additional P30,000 bonus is given during the holidays.

Meanwhile, pensioners under the Social Security System (SSS) and the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) receive a 13th month pension or Christmas cash gift, equivalent to one month’s pension depending on eligibility and pension size.
