CBS has issued early season two renewals to both of its new Friday‑night crime dramas, Boston Blue and Sheriff Country. Boston Blue is a continuation of the universe from the veteran Blue Bloods, which concluded its 15-season run last year. Donnie Wahlberg as Danny Reagan now works with the Boston Police Department and is partnered with a new detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green). Sheriff Country, a spinoff from Fire Country, stars Morena Baccarin as Sheriff Mickey Fox, who patrols a small town while confronting crime — and often wrestling with family issues.

“Sheriff Country,” which fits well as the Friday 8 p.m. ET anchor, is also confirmed to return for season two.

CBS

Per CBS, Boston Blue, in the Friday 10 p.m. ET hour, is averaging approximately 8 million viewers in Live + 7‑day multiplatform ratings, according to Nielsen. And Sheriff Country, which anchors the evening at 8 p.m. ET (leading into Fire Country), is similar at 7.6 million viewers. Both crime dramas are up from the comparable year-ago time period, and both dominate their time periods in total viewers.

“Two new shows on Friday night have become instant hits with audiences quickly embracing Boston Blue and Sheriff Country across broadcast and streaming,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, in a statement. She added that the early renewals reflect the “power of character‑driven storytelling, compelling narratives and the exceptional talent on both sides of the camera.”

What Reisenbach failed to mention, of course, is that both Boston Blue and Sheriff Country perform well below their parent series in their heydays.

The number of new episodes ordered for each series in season two has not been confirmed at press time.

Waiting in the Wings

CBS is also preparing its next Fire Country spinoff, tentatively titled Rescue Country, which will follow a team of first responders tackling high-stakes emergencies in a small Northern California town. The network has indicated that it plans to slot the series in its 2026–2027 Friday night lineup, potentially expanding the Friday crime-and-rescue block that now includes Sheriff Country and Fire Country.
