This list not only includes the HUNTR/X girls (and I guess we can see the ranking order of who is the most popular there), but also two members of the Saja Boys, indicating that this is not only going to be girls dressing up from the movie. I didn’t even remember who Derpy was in the movie, and that’s…the big magic cat. Amazing. The catch here is that there are only three Netflix-official costumes, and those are for the three HUNTR/X girls, so the Saja Boys and Derpy are on their own in terms of assembling a costume to resemble those characters (I’d go with the demon Saja versions, myself). KPop Demon Hunters

Spirit Halloween

We are two weeks away from Halloween, and while some people plan costumes months in advance, others scramble at the last minute. What’s everyone wearing? Well, we have some actual data on that front, and the list is dominated by one movie in particular, KPop Demon Hunters, for which costumes are extremely hard to come by. If you have been paying to pop culture at all this summer, you can probably understand why this is happening. Here’s the list, based on Google Search trends:

15) Glinda

14) Toothless

13) Nurse (Silent Hill)

12) Nightwing

11) Hamilton

10) Lorax

9) Elphaba

8) Derpy (KPop Demon Hunters)

7) Labubu

6) Chicken Jockey (Minecraft)

5) Baby Saja (KPop Demon Hunters)

4) Jinu (KPop Demon Hunters)

3) Mira (KPop Demon Hunters)

2) Zoey (KPop Demon Hunters)

1) Rumi (KPop Demon Hunters)

Yes, that’s right, six of the top 10 are from KPop Demon Hunters, Netflix’s ultra-megahit that became its most popular movie all time by a hundred million viewers or so.

The problem, however, is that by the time you’re reading this, it seems almost impossible to get the official Netflix KPop Demon Hunters HUNTR/X costumes at Spirit Halloween for either adults or children. They were added in October and they already seem to be totally wiped out online, and you may have to attempt to go store by local store, calling them individually, to see if you could possibly track them down. The official website doesn’t have them at all, only a flat image talking about heading to a physical store. You could get lucky, but it may take a lot of hunting.

But I have at least some level of good news here.

There is one place where it appears you can get KPop Demon Hunters costumes, at least for kids, in time for Halloween. That is from the talented folks at Etsy, who are making (admittedly unlicensed) versions of HUNTR/X costumes with the occasional Saja Boy. You can find that list of items here, and you can filter by ones that are still able to be delivered by Halloween. That said, I would certainly have a backup plan in mind, lest you rely on a very, very late delivery that doesn’t come for one reason or another. Many of these are shipping internationally. There is also a non-zero chance of scams here, so tread carefully, and make sure it’s from a well-established seller.

I have no doubt that there will be a lot of homemade KPop Demon Hunters costumes as well, either professional cosplay level or mom making it for a daughter level. Whatever the case, just know that you will be surrounded by other Demon Hunters and Demons from the movie this Halloween season.

Cashing In On University Patents Means Giving Up On Our Innovation Future

The post Cashing In On University Patents Means Giving Up On Our Innovation Future appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. “It’s a raid on American innovation that would deliver pennies to the Treasury while kneecapping the very engine of our economic and medical progress,” writes Pipes. Getty Images Washington is addicted to taxing success. Now, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is floating a plan to skim half the patent earnings from inventions developed at universities with federal funding. It’s being sold as a way to shore up programs like Social Security. In reality, it’s a raid on American innovation that would deliver pennies to the Treasury while kneecapping the very engine of our economic and medical progress. Yes, taxpayer dollars support early-stage research. But the real payoff comes later—in the jobs created, cures discovered, and industries launched when universities and private industry turn those discoveries into real products. By comparison, the sums at stake in patent licensing are trivial. Universities collectively earn only about $3.6 billion annually in patent income—less than the federal government spends on Social Security in a single day. Even confiscating half would barely register against a $6 trillion federal budget. And yet the damage from such a policy would be anything but trivial. The true return on taxpayer investment isn’t in licensing checks sent to Washington, but in the downstream economic activity that federally supported research unleashes. Thanks to the bipartisan Bayh-Dole Act of 1980, universities and private industry have powerful incentives to translate early-stage discoveries into real-world products. Before Bayh-Dole, the government hoarded patents from federally funded research, and fewer than 5% were ever licensed. Once universities could own and license their own inventions, innovation exploded. The result has been one of the best returns on investment in government history. Since 1996, university research has added nearly $2 trillion to U.S. industrial output, supported 6.5 million jobs, and launched more than 19,000 startups. Those companies pay…
