Quick Summary

  • NYSE and Nasdaq will operate during standard trading hours on April 6, 2026
  • The United States does not recognize Easter Monday as a federal holiday
  • European exchanges like London Stock Exchange and Euronext Paris will be closed
  • Banking institutions, USPS, FedEx, and UPS will maintain normal operations
  • Chinese markets including Shanghai and Hong Kong remain closed for Qingming Festival

April 6, 2026 marks Easter Monday, yet American traders can expect business as usual on Wall Street.

Both the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will commence trading at the standard opening bell of 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time. The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association has confirmed normal operational schedules for the day.

Since Easter Monday isn’t included in the 12 federally recognized holidays for 2026 in the United States, financial institutions won’t implement any special closures.

While the stock market observed a closure on Good Friday, April 4, Easter Monday represents a regular trading session. Good Friday remains one of the rare non-federal holidays that US exchanges acknowledge annually.

Additional trading platforms including over-the-counter markets, the Cboe Futures Exchange, CME Globex, and bond markets will all follow their typical operating procedures today.

Global Trading Landscape Varies by Region

The situation differs significantly across international financial centers. Major European venues including the London Stock Exchange and Euronext Paris have suspended operations for Easter Monday, which serves as an official public holiday throughout most European nations.

Meanwhile, both the Shanghai Stock Exchange and the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong have closed their doors, though for separate cultural reasons. These markets are observing Qingming Festival, an important traditional Chinese holiday.

Conversely, the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Bombay Stock Exchange, and Toronto Stock Exchange are all conducting regular trading operations today.

Financial Services and Logistics Continue Without Interruption

The Federal Reserve’s annual calendar includes 11 federal holidays, and Easter Monday doesn’t make that list. Consequently, banking facilities nationwide will serve customers with normal hours.

The US Postal Service has no disruptions planned. Standard mail collection and delivery services will proceed throughout the day.

Major shipping companies remain fully operational as well. Both UPS and FedEx are maintaining their pickup and delivery schedules, with retail outlets adhering to regular business hours.

This trading day arrives amid continued market volatility. Technology sector stocks, particularly software companies, have experienced downward pressure since late January due to concerns surrounding artificial intelligence disruption. Additionally, geopolitical tensions involving Iran that emerged in late February have contributed to economic uncertainty, prompting some investors to shift toward defensive assets.

US markets launched on schedule this morning without any reported exchange disruptions or technical delays.
